I had a great time on my first road trip to follow the Columbus Crew. Sadly, the game ended as a scoreless tie. I thought that Toronto really controlled most of the game, but the Crew had 3 really great chances to score. I'm not saying we tied because of the refereeing but I thought the referee did a horrible job. There were a few opportunities, but I think the most blatent non-call was when a Toronto player fouled Eddie Gaven, who then fell onto the ball. The whistle clearly blew, but the Toronto player (sorry, forget who) kicked the ball as Eddie was still on top of the ball. That definitely deserved a yellow card, but there was not a card or even a talking to! So I don't really know what the referee was thinking. Schelloto also was foulded many many times without getting a call. True, he did "embellish" a lot of those fouls, but that doesn't take away from the fact that they were clearly fouls.
It was a great trip though. 99% of the Toronto fans were amazing. A lot of them stopped by and talked to us as we were tailgating and thanked us for visiting. It was a great time. Hopefully we can bring more fans up to Toronto for the next trip. We had about 40 fans up there as the planned bus trip was cancelled. But the 40 of us were loud and spirited. Oh, and we were interviewed before the game by the CBC (Canadian channel that was showing the game). Cool...
