Happy New Year....

I really wish there was more time in the day.. And/or we needed less sleep.

Not that I'm doing much productive, but I did get a new Stephen King book for Christmas called The Dome. I haven't read any new books from Stephen King in awhile, but this one looked interesting. Also, I purchased some new games for the PS3... I now have Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves. These are both amazing games. So that is why I haven't updated this site in SOOO long.. :)

But I definitely plan to...

Besides my new games and books, I have training for a half iron man this year. I am in the early stages of training and really don't know how realistic it'll be to be honest. I currently play a lot of soccer and occasionally play basketball so I'm in decent shape. But that is very different than having endurance training. I've never really done "distance". Even in high school track, I ran only ran the 100, 200 or relays. I never ran cross country. But now I've signed up (and paid money) for this 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run! The ONLY event of the 3 that I'm confident I can do (somewhat confident that is) is the biking. That is... I could do 56 miles on a bike.. IF that was the only event. Ha.. The bike will be after the 1.2 mile swim, so I'm sure I'll just be thankful to be alive after the swim. So we'll see what happens... Seriously.. the swimming seems really hard at this time. I took swim lessons as a child, and can swim without drowning, but.. I did underestimate how hard it would be to swim a long distance. My plan is to let everyone swim by me and do the back float the whole distance!

So this is also why I haven't updated this yet.

My technical goals this year though are to look into google wave, google developer and get better at asp.net.

Just an update..

Training is going.. well I think.. except for the swimming.. That might be my downfall. I really underestimated the difficulty of swimming. I'd love to swim 3 days a week at least, but due to a busy work schedule the last 3 weeks, I haven't been able to get to the gym in the morning or at lunch like I'd like to. Hopefully next week is better (and it should be an easier work week).

As far as the running goes, I can finally run a couple of miles without getting shin splints!! Yeah. I spent lots of money seeing the doctor, seeing physical therapy, getting orthotics and new shoes. But my shin splints were still flaring up after 0.3 miles of running. I was getting really depressed but some friends suggested that I actually go to a running store so that I'm properly fitted for shoes. Well, I have had these shin splints for like 12 years, and after seeing the doctor and physical therapist, I really didn't think getting another pair of new shoes would do much good. But.. they did! I can actually run miles without the shin splints that have haunted me for so long. So I feel liberated in that, and feel optimistic about the 13 miles run in August. It is still a lot of miles, but I now have a decent chance.

I'm not sure what to think about the biking. That is the one sport that I feel most comfortable doing. I biked 20 miles on the trainer a couple of days ago, but I know that is nothing like it'll be actually biking in New Hampshire, on the hills, with the weather, and especially after swimming. So we'll see how that goes. I did just purchase a pair of clipless pedals. I've been wanting to get these for awhile, so I'm happy to finally have them, and now there is plenty of time to adjust to them.

Well.. hope all is going well..
